What’s the background to the campaign? Ever since the first Aga was installed more than 80 years ago, people have been falling in love with the world’s most famous cooker. Aga has now decided to harness that passion with a series of initiatives that fall under the ‘Love Aga’ banner.
While it’s possible to take a guess at how many Agas there are in kitchens throughout the world, it’s impossible to say with any great certainty.
Why is it being launched now? Next year marks 300 years since the advent of the Industrial Revolution, which began on the very site where Agas are still made today when Abraham Darby first smelted coke to produce iron.
How can I help? It’s with this prestigious anniversary in mind that Aga has launched a campaign to track down every single Aga, so that the Aga family can be reunited and every Aga owner can benefit from exclusive events and special offers.
Put your Aga on the map The new website http://www.thisismyaga.co.uk/ is an interactive meeting place where Aga owners will be able to upload their Aga pictures and stories and put their Aga on the map. There will be lots of exciting offers available exclusively to those who register.
The contributions made by Aga owners will be key to making this an exciting place to visit, so please log on and tell us all about your Aga.
Can I register by off-line? Yes, Aga lovers can also register their Agas by ringing 0845 4810772 or by sending their details to: This is my Aga, Aga, Station Road Ketley, TF1 5AQ.
Aga Managing Director Gerald O’Brien says: “I’m Abraham Darby’s 31st successor as foundry manager at Coalbrookdale. The Dale has been a key part in the Aga family history and I’m excited about reuniting that family.”
Love Aga – the book Next year will see the publication of a large-format gift cookbook called Love Aga. It will be a charming and elegant collection of Aga recipes from chefs, celebrities and Aga owners, beautiful photographs, anecdotes and Aga ephemera, and will feature personal stories from Aga owners across the globe.
And keep an eye out for Aga near you Don’t be surprised, too, if when you’re out and about you happen to see an Aga in an unusual place, such as a town centre or tube station. If you do, make sure you come over, say hello and taste some delicious Aga-cooked food.
Aga Shops are the hub of the Aga community and, with around 80 throughout the UK, there’s sure to be one near you. All Aga Shops run a regular programme of demonstrations, which are well worth attending, whether you’re new to Aga cooking or have been doing it for years.
Also, you can drop in and tell the staff in your local Aga Shop about your Aga and drop in anything you’d like to contribute to the various initiatives mentioned in this feature.
