Luxury Fired Earth bathroom

Ian and Pauline’s red brick townhouse is in a peaceful, calm and mature square in Norwich. With their youngest son at university they decided it was time to give their bathroom a bright new look

“When we moved into the house we lived with the decoration in the bathroom for quite a few years,” says Ian. But when our youngest son went to university it brought on the desire to decorate again.

“My wife, Pauline, looked around all the bathroom and tile stores at what was available. She’d been aware of Fired Earth for some time and loved their bathroom range.

“We’d already installed our freestanding bath and we wanted to make more of the design around it. One of our starting points was the Fired Earth paint colour, Red Ochre. When we saw this colour we really loved it and wanted to use it as a boldly warm and energetic statement in our bathroom.

“Ellie, the Fired Earth Home Designer, came round to visit us and to listen to what we were trying to achieve. She was really helpful and went away to produce a wonderful ‘mood board’. This was a work of art and worth every penny of the design fee. It inspired us and gave us the confidence to push ahead with our ideas.”

Warm and inviting: Ian and Pauline's new bathroom definitely makes an impact

“Ian and Pauline told me which colour they wanted to use,” says Ellie at Fired Earth’s showroom in Norwich. “They wanted their bathroom to be warm, inviting, a bit different and to make an impact. While they already had their roll-top bath they wanted to go for some contrasting and more contemporary pieces, so they chose to put a wonderful wall of Mother of Pearl oyster mosaic tiles behind it creating a fabulously opulent feeling in the room.

“They used simple matt cream tiles from our architecture range on the wall running behind their basin and loo and dressed it up using more oyster mosaic tiles. They also used contemporary glacier taps with their more traditionally styled basin. They were impressed with the prices and the quality and I’m really thrilled with the design and the way it’s knitted together so successfully, but most importantly how they’re so happy with the results”.

Picking up the story, Ian says: “We used Fired Earth to do the tiling and we were delighted with their tiler. He really was marvellous and did a great job. He was neat, efficient and within the week we were able to get back into our bathroom, so the whole exercise caused us very little inconvenience. Now, of course, it gives my wife, myself and all the family a great deal of pleasure – not to mention our cat, Scott, who regularly stows away for hours in the bathroom airing cupboard.”
