Save Our Bacon: National Restaurant Week to raise awareness of the problems facing British pig farmers | What is Save Our Bacon Restaurant Week? Save Our Bacon is a campaign from Waitrose Food Illustrated (WFI) magazine, which highlights the problems facing British pig farmers, who currently lose on average £26 per pig they sell.
When is it? Monday April 28 to Sunday May 4
Who is taking part and what are they serving? Restaurants across the UK are joining forces to mark Save Our Bacon National Restaurant Week.
From top London restaurants such as The Ivy and St John, to country pubs and local cafes, hundreds of chefs will be putting special British pork dishes on their menus.

· Le Caprice Pork Chops with Sage Butter
· Hix Oyster and Chop House Bacon Chop with Cockles and Laver Bread
· The Grill at Browns Hotel Bacon Chop with Asparagus and St George Mushrooms

What do chefs say? “We’ve all got to take responsibility for the great British pig,” says chef Fergus Henderson. He is putting a Gloucester Old Spot bacon sandwich on the menu at St John Bread and Wine.
Other celebrity chefs backing the campaign include celebrated Michelin-starred chefs Tom Aikens, Heston Blumenthal, Raymond Blanc and Angela Hartnett.
Heston Blumenthal says: “It’s vital that we as restaurateurs unite behind British pig farmers at this difficult time. It is people like us that can really make a difference.”
William Sitwell, editor of WFI, says: “The amazing number of restaurants taking part in the Save Our Bacon National Restaurant Week shows the extraordinary depth of feeling that chefs and restaurant owners have about the plight of British pig farmers. This is the moment that really matters in this campaign – British restaurants are telling diners - ‘Put British pork on your fork!’”
