A TV date for your diaries
Actor, comedian, author and TV presenter Griff Rhys Jones visited the historic AGA foundry in Coalbrookdale last summer to film a segment for a new BBC documentary series.
The production company, Modern TV, had been commissioned to make a series of five one-hour films about life on and around the great rivers of the UK.
The Coalbrookdale foundry - a United Nations-designated World Heritage Site - is close to the River Severn and the hugely significant Ironbridge, which was cast in local foundries and built by Abraham Darby III.
Well, I've now been told that the programme featuring the Coalbrookdale foundry will be on BBC1 on Sunday August 9th at 9pm. The series is called simply Rivers.
The crew filmed for around three hours and admitted to being fascinated by the process of making an Aga. Griff Rhys Jones said: "It was hot, moderately smelly and hugely exciting." He then added: "There's something elemental about seeing the whole smelting process in action. I had a great trip, but don't think I'd recommend anyone try making their own AGA."
