What  did  the  survey  show ?

The survey - carried out at Aga Shops nationwide - set out to learn more about the cooking lifestyle of Aga owners.

Traditional roast

Traditional fare: food Aga owners like to cook

Despite the fact we live in what's been called a time-poor age, results show Aga owners still cook every day and the food they like to cook most is traditional fare, albeit with influences of international cuisine.

Of those who took part:

· 25% owned an Aga less than five years old

· 52% of respondents fell into the 30-49 years-old age range

· The majority of owners had two adults in the household and 33% had one or two children.

More cooking takes place at the weekend, when more time is available and more meals are eaten at home. In the week, just over half of respondents cooked once a day - the main evening meal - whereas a third cooked twice a day, with breakfast or lunch as the other meal.

At weekends the numbers reversed - half the respondents cook two meals a day and a quarter cook three meals a day.

Interestingly, during the week cooking is usually done by woman (80%), while on Saturdays and Sundays men often pitch in, with 15% to 26% of meals being a shared cooking event.

The survey also revealed that 21% of us entertain once a week and 31% once a fortnight. We also like to go out for a meal, with 60% doing so at least once a month.

Who  took  part  in  the  survey ?

Stir-fry

International influences: pasta and stir-fries score highly

The age of respondents ranged from 20 to 69 and all ranked roasts as being the food they most like to cook, followed by baking, casseroles, curries and soups.

International influences came next, with pasta and stir-fries scoring highly, then snacks followed by cakes. Surprisingly, fish fell outside the top 10 popularity ranking.

Where  do  people  get  recipes  and  ideas  from ?

Inspiration for most Aga owners came from cookbooks, followed by their own or a friend's recipes. Magazines and Aga demonstrations were also popular, as were online resources such as Agalinks
