Aga – any colour, as long as it’s green

The Aga has enviable green credentials. Largely made from recycled materials and built to last for at least a generation, the Aga offers peerless kitchen capability that won’t cost the earth

2-Oven Aga Classic Special Edition

So many uses: own an Aga and say goodbye to so many appliances and gadgets

The Aga may be available in a host of fabulous colours, but every model is also wonderfully green.

Here are just some of the reasons why…

Built to last
The Aga is designed to perform and hand-crafted to last for at least a generation, with thousands around the world still going strong after more than 50 years’ service. In every sense, buying an Aga is an investment.

The ultimate recycled product
Most of each Aga produced is made from materials previously used for another purpose. Then, when the day finally does arrive when the Aga has reached the end of its working life, it is never taken to as landfill site where it might languish for years, irreversibly polluting the environment. Instead, it is recycled to produce the next generation of Agas, increasingly so as Aga owners trade in their old Aga for a modern one.

Making a clean start
£7 million has been spent on ensuring emissions from the Aga foundry in Coalbrookdale – on the original site where Abraham Derby started the industrial revolution – are as clean as the air you breathe.

Wind turbine

Force for good: a wind turbine has been installed at Aga’s Telford factory

Committed to caring for the planet
As part of Aga’s ongoing research a wind turbine has been installed at Aga’s Telford factory, where it is linked to the company’s development centre. As the cost of micro generation falls and its efficiency increases, Aga will emerge as a key component in domestic micro-generation projects.

So many uses
Owning an Aga means not having to buy and use a host of short-lived kitchen appliances that would add considerably to household bills – and your carbon footprint. Use an Aga to the full and say goodbye to the electric kettle, toaster, slow-cooker, steamer and microwave – even the tumble drier.

As owners around the world will testify, the gentle, ambient heat from the highly efficient radiating cast iron of the Aga also provides a welcoming heart to the home and eliminates the need for radiators in the kitchen and often beyond.

The environmental benefit comes in having one long-lived, multi-functional product compared to the regular turnover of short-lived consumable appliances. The Aga, then – one cooker, so many roles.

Getting even better
Extensive research and development has seen the Aga improve yet further in a desire to ensure its peerless performance famous around the world is matched by enviable energy efficiency.

AIMS remote

Ultimate flexibility: the remote control for the new programmable AIMS Aga

AIMS – the programmable Aga
From April 2007, the much-praised Electric Aga – which runs on a standard 13-amp connection – has been available with the option of the Aga Intelligent Management System (AIMS). The hugely innovative system means consumers will be able to adjust the temperature of their Aga to suit their lifestyle.

The AIMS system will allow the user to program their Aga to a default setting, meaning it will quickly rise to cooking temperature twice a day – at breakfast and dinner – with a medium setting during the rest of the day.

But the system also allows even more flexibility and control. Programmed using a TV-style, battery-operated remote control, AIMS also means consumers will have the option to override the default setting and instead choose two alternative ‘events’ per day, at times of their choosing.

The system can also be set to ‘holiday’ mode, which will keep the Aga on either the lowest energy setting (or off) during the selected dates, before automatically restarting in time for the family’s arrival back home. Additionally the Aga can be turned off when you’re not at home and be programmed to be ready when you return. This can reduce daily energy consumption by between 19 and 31% and eliminate it during absence.

Hybrid Aga

Best of both worlds: the Hybrid Aga incorporates a conventional hob and oven

Hybrid Aga – the best of both worlds
Aga has for many years made ‘hybrid’ models which incorporate a conventional hob and oven and means the Aga can readily deal with times when the cooker is not needed much or in hot summer months, when eating habits change and the cooking and heating features of the Aga are not required continuously.

A Hybrid Aga offers the best of both worlds. You get all that you expect from a traditional heat-storage Aga, which can be run on oil, electricity, gas, LPG or diesel, plus two extra conventional ovens and an integral grill, which run on electricity and a choice of ceramic or gas hob.

As well as offering additional capacity and cooking versatility during the winter months, when cookers tend to be used more heavily, the hybrid Aga offers the option of turning off the heat storage part of the Aga during the summer, when cooking demands often lessen, while, at the same time keeping full cooking functionality.

The new biofuel-ready Aga
As part of its ongoing commitment to the environment, Aga has developed biofuel-ready cookers.

The Aga is, of course, the original recycled product. Most of each Aga produced is made from materials previously used for another purpose. Now, Aga has unveiled a new generation of biofuel-ready models. But the green customer needn’t wait until these fuels become widely available to use these Agas – in the meantime the cookers will run on either oil or diesel.
Customers who buy a biofuel-ready Aga can be confident that, as soon as biofuel becomes available, Aga can modify the Aga’s burner and make any other minor adjustments, so they can be among the first people to use this new fuel in a domestic setting.

Rayburn 480CD

Black and green: the new Rayburn 480CD offers good looks and energy efficiency

Rayburn, too, is hot on being green
Rayburn has always been at the forefront in heating and cooking ideas. The Rayburn’s condensing burner system is now ‘A’ rated, making it the most energy efficient heat storage product available. We have also upgraded our carbon neutral wood burning Rayburn models and these installations attract VAT at a lower 5% rate.

So, the Aga is a design classic, but so much more.

The world’s best cooker uses radiated heat to cook healthily and produce great tasting food. And the brand is working hard to ensure such peerless performance is matched by energy efficiency measures and a commitment to caring for the environment.

So while 43% of all Agas sold are cream, every one of them is very green.
