Fired Earth designs: seamlessly woven together

Fired Earth designs: seamlessly woven together

Nick and Tricia's home is a voyage of exploration

Luxurious master bedroom

Stuff dreams are made of: the luxurious master bedroom

Nick and Tricia's house not only has great character, charm and style, but a homely, organic feel. And it's here that they have raised their four children.

Making  changes  with  Fired  Earth

About a year ago Nick and Tricia decided to move their master bedroom from one side of the house to the other and knock through an external wall into a garage next door to create an en suite shower room.

They approached Fired Earth, who worked with them to design their new en suite shower room and they are delighted with the results.

"We love the Fired Earth tiles and paint and found all the advice really helpful. [It] really helped Tricia to turn her ideas into reality and we're so delighted with the result," says Nick. "The Island Pebble floor tiles in particular are a great joy to walk on, with a really therapeutic feel underfoot."

"We love the shower," says Tricia. "Everything about it. The tiles are perfect, the paint is lovely, and everyone raves about the pebbles - an in-built reflexology ready daily for our feet. I just love showing it off.

Aga  cooking

Tricia loves cooking and this love of good food has rubbed off on their four children who've all learned to cook on the Aga. As they are a very sporting family they have always appreciated the need for a healthy diet and cooking well.

"All our children cook," says Tricia. "They're all very good cooks and I am sure this has a lot to do with having an Aga. Because the Aga is always available, then no matter what time of day or night the children have felt hungry they've been able to put on and cook up some good healthy food pretty easily.

"As the boys have always played rugby and done so many other sports they've always loved cooking an Aga breakfast. They take the large roasting pan and put mushrooms and tomatoes on the bottom. They place bacon, sausages and black pudding onto the rack above and cook it all in the roasting oven. This grills the meat which is so much better than frying it in a lot of fat."

Tricia loves cooking family roasts. "It's wonderful the way the Aga keeps everything warm without it over-cooking once it's done."

Quick  scones

And for people who need a snack quickly Tricia recommends scones. She has two recipes she prefers - Basic Sweet White House Scones and Manor House Scones (recipes below). She also makes her own soups - renowned in the family - and known as 'Heade' soups because whatever comes into your head and is at home goes into the broth.

The Racing Green Aga: a true people magnet

About five years ago Tricia decided to have the kitchen painted in a highly distressed style and in a lemon yellow to match the old Fired Earth tiles above the Aga. There is no doubt, however, that the Aga is the star of the show.

"I wouldn't be without my Aga," says Tricia. "It's the heart of the home. Everyone congregates around it. It's a magnet. It's just fab."
